From Annie Padilla
Subud member, Brynn Matsen, died suddenly on January 18, 2013 at Kadlec Hospital, Richland, Washington, of complications of the flu. She was 60 years old. She is survived by her mother, Mary Dryer, husband, Steve Matsen, daughter, Mary Averill Matsen-Reed, son, Tony Matsen and son, Duke Matsen and 3 week old granddaughter, Madeleine Matsen-Red. Brynn was my first cousin, and dear, dear friend. She suffered many years from a variety of chronic illness. She was opened at Menucha about 5 years ago, yet her chronic illness was a barrier to her participating in the latihan. A year ago, she was visiting in the area, and was able to attend latihan in Seattle with Evan, myself, and her husband, Steve, who is also a SUBUD member. Brynn and Steve both noted that was the best latihan they had ever experienced. She was very much loved by our family, and she will be greatly missed. Her funeral will take place in her home town, Bickleton, Washington, on February 9, 2013.
Please join us in a brief latihan for Brynn and her family on Saturday, February 2, 2013 following the SUBUD Seattle 10:15 a.m. latihan.
Annie Padilla, Thank You so very much,

Ian Boyden will give a presentation of the two artist books he’s made with Sam: Habitations and Edible Earth. He’ll talk about the ways these books came to be, ideas that coalesced in their making, his contributions to the projects as an artist and bookmaker, and some thoughts about collaboration. Sam Hamill will read from his new chapbook Border Songs published by Word Palace Press (www.wordpalacepress.com) and, perhaps, from Habitations. This event is presented by SPLAB in association with SICA, the Subud International Cultural Association.
Ian Boyden is an artist and writer currently working in the Blue Mountains southeast of Walla Walla, Washington. Boyden’s practice, in both his paintings and books, displays a fundamental drive to link the literary, material, and visual imagination. He makes his own paints and inks from unusual materials such as meteorites, shark teeth, and freshwater pearls. He often works in collaboration with other writers, artists, and scientists. His work has been exhibited widely and is found in many public collections including Reed College, the Portland Art Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Suzhou Museum. Subud gathering on Salt Spring, Oct 26-28
Subud Western Regional Gathering
Salt Spring Island
OCTOBER 26 – 28, 2012
Following the success of the Americas Gathering, there has been a renewed interest in
coming together for Western Regional Gatherings this fall. Luckily, the beautiful Salt Spring
Island Centre of Yoga is still available for the weekend of Friday, October 26 to Sunday,
October 28. Described as a sanctuary for body and soul, the Centre’s cozy turn-of-the-
century farmhouse and studio buildings are located on 70 acres of meadows, forest and
organic gardens, and our food will be grown and harvested fresh from their own land.
This is an opportunity to treat yourself to a healing environment that provides time for quiet,
reflection and rest, and to gather with your Subud brothers and sisters for a weekend of
kejiwaan and community. The Western Regional Helpers, together with the Salt Spring Island
Group, are happy to host and welcome you here.
Twenty-four beds are available on-site in a combination of shared and single rooms (see
registration form for costs). Saturday ONE DAY Drop-Ins are also possible. Please indicate
your choice on the attached Registration Form.
In order to hold our reservation, the Centre needs a minimum of 15 pre-paid full-weekend
reservations by September 24. So, please notify DAVE & HELENA HITCHCOCK by email or
phone (hitch@shaw.ca or 250 370 1291) as soon as possible if you wish to attend, and mail
them your completed registration form and cheque straight away to confirm your booking.
