Birther Wesbites are Calling Subud A Cult

Apparently the death of Deliana Fuddy is bringing out the paranoid, as hits on the Subud Greater Seattle website got over 800 and counting by 9pm tonight. Most of the hits are coming from the political movement known as the Birther movement, which believes President Obama was not legally born in this country and, as such, has no right to be in office. That Deliana died in a plane crash has the fertile imaginations of these folks in rare form. See the stats:

As Marston Gregory once joked with me: “If Subud were a cult, we’d be more organized.”

Who’s bringing the kool aid to the Sunday potluck?

ANNUAL MEETING THIS COMING SUNDAY

Don’t forget we have our annual meeting this Sunday Jan 26 after latihan/lunch at the Seattle Subud house. Please bring a potluck dish to contribute for a healthy, delicious lunch. Or bring pizza. (Gluten free pizza.) Following lunch we will have our annual meeting. Find out what’s going on in Subud. The current Dewan has been in office for one year. What do you like about Subud Greater Seattle in that time? What could use work? Are we done with Forgiveness Days, or are we just getting started? Come share your thoughts, help us build a better Subud community and hear about plans for the coming year from your Dewan.

DC Subud House Going Up

This from the January Subud E-Blast:

On Saturday, December 28, Subud Washington DC had a selamatan to pray for the assembly of the new Subud house. About 40 brothers and sisters attended, from Subud Central MD, Northern VA, Fairfax, New York, and Washington DC. John Tjia, chairperson of Subud NY was present to represent Subud NY. There was a simultaneous latihan for men and women; East Coast Regional Helpers who could not attend did latihan long distance. Afterwards, a potluck dinner was served.

The remaining tasks that need to be completed before occupancy are: geothermal/HVAC, electricity, water connection, grading, sidewalks, deck, landscaping, and furnishing. $50,000 of the $200,000 still needed has been raised in the last few weeks. For those wishing to assist, send a check to Subud Washington DC c/o Barbara Thomas, 5957 Second St., Deale, MD 20751.

Halimah’s Career Quest Ap

From Halimah Bellows:

Hello colleagues, professional and business associates, associates from my different walks of life,  friends, family and former clients: A very happy New Year to you all and all the best for 2014.

Here is a copy from my press kit about my career quest cards – now an app.  I would most appreciate it if you would be so kind as to download it on your iphone, ipad, itunes, kindle and/or android devices (and it is also available on Amazon) and if you feel inclined write a review.I would love to hear from you – about the app but also how you all are doing as well.  Re the app- .  As far as I can tell, it is the only career search app of its kind.  And  the more downloads, the higher up in goes on the search pages. Thanks so much.  The urls are below but you can search for it under Career Quest on all platforms and it should come up.  Again thank you all so much.  Take care.  I love you. Halimah

Testing on Sunday Jan 12

Jim O'Halloran

Jim O’Halloran

From local helper Jim O’Halloran:

We will have some testing after general Latihan next Sunday around forgiveness, starting with the verbiage from last week: “Almighty God we pray that you will grant us what we each need to be able to forgive one another and ourselves and to heal old hurts.  That we may each of us find a way to create goodwill and harmony within our group.”

I would like to test What would Almighty God have me know about myself to be more effective at forgiving myself and others;
How would Almighty God have me go about forgiving myself and others?
What stands in my way of forgiving?  (maybe if appropriate do a Latihan to change what is received)

Does anyone else have questions they would like to test?  Halimah, I think you have some-could you reply?

December 22, 2013 Holiday Party Report

What a great event Subud Greater Seattle created on Sunday, December 22, 2013, our annual Holiday Party! Hadiyah Carlyle did much of the organizing and made some phone calls to members who live far from Seattle, (such as Frederick and Melanie Branchflower), David Lynch and Jim O’Halloran performed on guitar and flute respectively, Hadijah Obar and Annie Padilla helped provide food (along with many member potluck dishes including authentic Cuban picadillo) and long-time members (& recent transplants to Seattle) Halstein & Ida Stralberg, and Sebastian & Lorraine Tedrow told Subud stories.

Halstein and Ida talked about becoming acquainted with Subud. Halstein said he was a spiritual seeker at age 16, was opened in Subud at 18 and became a helper not much after that. Lorraine talked about the effort to acquire the house now known as the Subud House in Seattle. She said Lawrence and Rosanna Krauss carried the $23K mortgage because traditional financing was not available to the fledgling Subud Seattle community. She mentioned a book by Rosanna Krauss about the early days of Subud in Seattle, which go back to 1961, and said we will celebrate 40 years in the house in February 2014.

I took extensive notes and hope to make a more detailed post about these talks sometime. Better yet, interviews with all these folks and Chuck and Anne Cary, early Subud Seattle members, would be ideal. Please have any elders interested in doing an interview contact me at pen (at) splab (dot) org or call (206) 422.5002.

Also, for anyone who took photos of this past event, please send a few choice ones to me. Thanks, Paul Nelson.
