Welcome, Olivia Clare Barclay opened May 21, 2017
What a day! A lot happened on Sunday May 21. First we saw two new dogwood trees planted outside, had an exciting Dewan meeting at 9:30 (see Dewan Meeting Minutes here…), added a new woman member to our group, and enjoyed a delicious potluck.
The Dogwood Gang: Paul, Phillip, Marston and Halstein
The two dogwood trees replace the dying acacia tree that had been invaded by a fungus. Lucinda O’Halloran recommended this variety of dogwood because of its resistance to diseases.
It’s great when cooks include a list of ingredients.
We love to eat. And what a feast this was, featuring two hearty stews, a rich variety of salads and delicacies like latkes and sour cream, homemade hummus, cornbread, roasted root veggies and gluten-free brownies.
The women and men helpers are offering a Latihan for the Ancestors on Sunday May 28 after the general Latihan.
All members are welcome.
The Lodge and cabins at the Subud Canada Family Gathering
Subud Canada’s Crescent Beach “early bird” registration deadline is is coming soon–June 1. Located south of Vancouver BC, the Family Gathering happens the weekend of July 14-16
Individual cabins at the Subud Canada Family Gathering
All of the rooms have a minimum of two single beds, but there will be a limited number available for single occupancy, so that you can have a room to yourself. These will be allocated on a “first come/first served” basis, so you really need to get your registration in soon if you want one of these rooms.
On-line registration is very simple. Here is the link to the registration package that contains information about the gathering and instructions about on-line registering. If you would prefer to print out the form and mail it with a cheque, you can do that.

Like many of you, I have fond memories of last year’s gathering at Crescent Beach. Here are some more of the comments about what folks enjoyed:

But–the potluck event to honor volunteers and the history of our Greater Seattle Subud Group has been postponed until fall.
The potluck on the 21st is an opportunity to reconnect with familiar Subud sisters and brothers and to welcome new members.
Please do bring food; your contribution will enable us to have a bountiful and varied buffet. If you bring a dish with several ingredients, please note them; folks with food allergies and sensitivities will thank you.
There will be an opening immediately after the women’s Latihan, but this will not change the time of the potluck (right after the regular Latihan). After the opening of our newest Subud sister, she and the women helpers will join us.
Have you ever been fascinated by feathers you’ve found while walking in the woods? I have and kept them as reminders of nature. I saved them in jars. I added them to dream catchers. Chris Maynard, son of Bob and Andrea Maynard, long time Seattle Subud members, uses them to create art. Using the fine surgical magnifying glasses and intricate cutting tools from Bob Maynard’s surgery, he cuts tiny birds and other animals out of feathers.

You only have until June 4th to catch this exhibit and it’s worth the short ferry ride from the Seattle Ferry Terminal to the Bainbridge Island Terminal and then a very short walk up the hill to the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art.
It’s free…And Amazing. Now where will you find that combination again?
